Position Description

Signal Design Engineer

Primary Role

Deliver and/or verify designs / projects and/or contribute to larger, more complex design projects to relevant standards, or code of practice, and agreed client requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Liase with Group Leaders, Senior Engineers or Engineers and other discipline members of project team on project specifications and requirements to establish a shared understanding of design scope, budget, time constraints, success indicators, quality, environmental and safety standards, and perform design tasks accordingly.
  • Contribute to team success by following project plans and scheduled works for projects to ensure they are completed in a financially responsible manner, to time, cost, quality and safety standards, and satisfying client requirements.
  • Assist Group Leaders to resolve problems related to technical specifications, safety, quality, environmental and resourcing by following established procedures to minimise the impact on the delivery of design projects.
  • Regularly report to Group Leaders or Senior Engineers/ Engineering Delivery Managers regarding the status of design projects so a collaborative approach can be taken to address issues.
  • Understand and systematically follow the QA, OH&S, safe working, EEO and environmental plans and safeguards applicable to design work.
  • Follow Quality Control procedures applicable to design and service delivery, including the review, verification, and validation of design deliverables, and ensure awareness of one’s responsibilities.

 

Knowledge/Experience Requirements:

  • Experienced in using engineering software programs and a familiarity with CAD.
  • Ability to produce technical drawings, designs, functional specifications, scheme / signalling plans and reports.
  • Significant experience in Relay Interlocking and SSI or Microlok Interlocking.
  • Ability to research current and emerging technologies relevant to design to ensure that client’ requirements are met.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes of practice/ standards and other relevant codes.
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • IRSE Licence 1.1.150 (A, C and/or D) Signalling Designer
  • Desirable IRSE Licence 1.1.160 Signalling Design Verifier
  • Candidates with IRSE qualifications as referred above will require assessment and accreditations.
  • Highly motivated team player with competencies of planning, organising and ability to supervise staff.
